Do you love to write? Are you ready to take the next step and submit your work to this year’s KidsWrite! youth writing contest (sponsored by the San Diego Writers Festival)? Every year they put out a call to youth writers. CLICK HERE to find out more about the contest.

In this workshop, you will write to a series of prompts meant to help you generate new writing (poetry, short stories, graphic stories) around this year’s theme, “The Day You Begin,” inspired by the book with the same title by Jaqueline Woodson and illustrated by Rafael Lopez. Bring paper, pencil, and your passion for writing. Led by Tania Pryputniewicz.

About the instructor: A graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, Tania Pryputniewicz serves on the judging panel for poetry entries for the KidsWrite! poetry contest sponsored by the San Diego Writers Festival. Tania is the author of November Butterfly (Saddle Road Press, 2014), Heart’s Compass Tarot: Discover Tarot Journaling and Create Your Own Cards (Two Fine Crows Books, 2021) and a memoir-in-poems, The Fool in the Corn (Saddle Road Press, 2022). Tania teaches at San Diego Writers, Ink and at Antioch University’s Continuing Education Program. She lives in Coronado with her husband, three children, one blue-eyed Husky and a formerly feral cat named Luna.
