Join the Library for our Autumn Concert Series Friday's from September 3 to November 5th. Each concert will begin at 1 p.m. in the Winn Room. Doors will open 15 minutes prior to the performance. All performances will also be livestreamed on the Library’s Facebook Page.

On Friday, October 29 concert pianist Vania Pimentel will perform "Homage to Prof. pianist Henriqueta Garcez Duarte: European and Brazilian Music."

Vania Pimentel, born and raised in Brazil, has a BA in Music and another BA in Philosophy, KA graduate diploma from Karlsruhe in Germany, Masters in Piano Performance and Pedagogy, and DMA from the University of Houston. Her doctoral dissertation was on Brazilian toccatas, and her CD 'Brazilian Toccatas and Toccatas' was praised by the Brazilian Academy of Music. Dr. Pimentel became a member of Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, and worked as an assistant teacher at the Moores School of Music and the Texas Music Festival.

Her first award at a piano competition was at the age of seven in Brazil. Her top awards are from J.S.Bach International Piano Competition in Paris, 1984, and Jaen Competition in Spain, 1982.

Dr. Pimentel has been living in San Diego since 2009. She has performed recitals at Palomar College, at the libraries of Fallbrook, Coronado, Encinitas, Carmel Valley, the Athenaeum of La Jolla, and chamber music at the Merc of Temecula. She also performs frequently in Brazil.
