Join the Library on a guided nature walk so we can record observations for the City Nature Challenge! Wear good walking shoes and bring water, sunscreen, and a smartphone. We plan to walk for about an hour. Meet at the Cays Park (where participants may park) at 12:30 p.m. Walk starts at 1 p.m.

The 2023 City Nature Challenge is a worldwide collaboration to get people observing the natural world through photography over a four-day period -- and San Diego County is participating!

We use the free iNaturalist app to tally results for observations made in San Diego County. All wild plants and animals count, even non-native species.

The 2023 City Nature Challenge begins Friday, April 28 at 12 a.m. PT and ends Monday, May 1 at 11:59 p.m. PT. Any observation made within the County during the City Nature Challenge will count toward San Diego’s total.

Taking part is easy! Here's how:

1.Download the free iNaturalist app to your Android or iPhone.

2.Join the City Nature Challenge 2023: San Diego County iNaturalist project.

3.Take photos of wild plants and animals in San Diego County from April 28-May 1.

4.Upload your photos to iNaturalist.

5.Learn more as the iNaturalist community helps identify your observations. This year's challenge winner will be announced on May 8 by the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles.
