Event Details

Join the Library on the hunt for wildlife in the City Nature Challenge. Find the library's green pop-up tent and taxidermy specimens at the park for help with iNaturalist. Over the course of the two hours we'll take two strolls along the trails, starting at 10:30am and 11:30am, to observe the plants and animals we'll see.

The 2024 City Nature Challenge is a worldwide collaboration to get people observing the natural world through photography over a four-day period -- and San Diego County is participating!

We use the free iNaturalist app to tally results for observations made in San Diego County. All wild plants and animals count, even non-native species.

The 2024 City Nature Challenge begins Friday, April 26 and ends Monday, April 29. Any observation made using iNaturalist within the County during the City Nature Challenge will count toward San Diego’s total.

Taking part is easy! Here's how:

Find Wildlife: It can be any plant, animal, or any evidence of life found in your city.

Take picture: Take a picture of what you find. Be sure to note the location of the critter or plant.

Share: Upload your observations through iNaturalist to share your data with researchers.

Need help with iNaturalist? Ask a library staff member during this event!

SD Audubon is partnering with the Library on this event. Get all your bird questions answered while Audubon staff are at the table, only until 11am.
