Optimist International Oratorical Contest
Calling all young speakers! The Optimist International Oratorical Contest is open to students under the age of 19 as of October 1, 2024, who have not yet completed secondary school. This is a fantastic opportunity to build confidence, enhance public speaking skills, and compete for scholarships while sharing your unique perspective on this year’s topic: “How Optimism Has Guided Me Through Trying Times.”
Participants will prepare and deliver a 4 to 5-minute speech and must include the official topic is stated in the first sentence. Speeches will be judged on poise, content, delivery, and overall effectiveness, with penalties for exceeding time limits, improper citations, or use of props. Winners will advance through local, zone, district, and international levels, with scholarships of up to $15,000 awarded at the World Championship.
Interested participants should contact Diana Drummey at 619-787-9592 or drummedge@att.net.
