Poetry for the People returns this year with a focus on works by U.S. poet laureates.

U.S. poet laureates serve as our nation’s official poets.  They seek “to raise the national consciousness to a greater appreciation of the reading of poetry.”  We’ll discuss their poems and learn about their life highlights, while considering the techniques and use of language that distinguish these poets.  Most importantly, Poetry for the People offers its members encouragement to offer their views, opinions, and reactions to the poems, which, in turn, enriches the class for everyone present.

Chuck Kamar received his Bachelor’s from Boston State and his Master’s from Boston University.  He taught for 34 years in the Newton Public Schools, the last 20 of which at Newton North High School.  In 1998 he won the Paul E. Elicker Award for Excellence in Teaching.
