Event Details

The Library's Autumn Concert Series takes place on Fridays from September 1 to November 3. Each concert will begin at 1 p.m. in the Winn Room. Doors will open 15 minutes prior to the performance. This week, Jaeryoung Lee will lead attendees on a musical journey through cinema.

"Music From the Cinema" is a celebration of the everlasting magic of movies from Italy, France, Japan and the U.S. The featured film and inspirational score will be subsequently introduced with a short clip during this multimedia event. Because familiar musical pieces from the cinema will be performed, audiences will be exposed to jazz that offers another language to exchange ideas and feelings.

J. Lee, an active performer and music educator, took her first piano lesson at age six. Ms. Lee has appeared in many different venues from classical to jazz as a pianist, vocalist, accompanist, band leader and musical director. She and her jazz arrangements have been featured on local radio and television programs and she has worked as the musical director for local theater productions, including the San Diego Repertory Theatre. Ms. Lee regularly composes, arranges, and performs dozens of arrangements for her own jazz trio. As a pianist/vocalist, she has performed with many noted musicians, including Peter Sprague, Vinny Golia, Bill Watrous and Maestro Jung-Ho Pak.

In addition to performing, Ms. Lee serves as Professor of Music at San Diego Mesa College and MiraCosta College.  She has been teaching applied piano (classic and jazz), classical piano, world music, music theory (classic and jazz), music appreciation, music for elementary school teachers, show choir, and voice for the jazz vocalist.
