FILM FORUM CORONADO: "The Magnificent Ambersons"

Coronado Public Library, in partnership with the Coronado Island Film Festival, presents FILM FORUM CORONADO, taking place the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the library's Winn Room. Film expert Ralph DeLauro provides a brief introduction to each film and leads a discussion afterwards, often including pointers about how lighting or camera angles contribute to a scene’s mood or propel the story.

May 7: The Magnificent Ambersons (1942, Approved, 89 min)

Orson Welles’s compromised masterpiece, re-edited by a nervous studio, offers a wistful elegy for a bygone era. The film chronicles the decline of the Amberson clan with the coming Industrial Revolution leaving them on the brink of financial ruin and obsolescence. Stars: Orson Welles, Joseph Cotten, Agnes Moorehead, Anne Baxter and Tim Holt.
