FILM FORUM CORONADO: "Nayak the Hero"

Coronado Public Library, in partnership with the Coronado Island Film Festival, presents FILM FORUM CORONADO, taking place the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the library's Winn Room. Film expert Ralph DeLauro provides a brief introduction to each film and leads a discussion afterwards, often including pointers about how lighting or camera angles contribute to a scene’s mood or propel the story.

June 21: Nayak the Hero (Bengali with English subtitles, 1966, 117 min)

Satyajit Ray seamlessly integrates rueful flashbacks with surreal dream sequences in this sly, satiric, psychologically rich meditation on art, fame and regret. A brash matinee idol (Uttam Kumar) on the brink of his first flop is sent reeling down the path of self-examination when interviewed by a journalist (Sharmila Tagore) while on route to receive an award.
