FILM FORUM CORONADO: "Stray Dog"

Coronado Public Library, in partnership with the Coronado Island Film Festival, presents FILM FORUM CORONADO, taking place the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the library's Winn Room. Film expert Ralph DeLauro provides a brief introduction to each film and leads a discussion afterwards, often including pointers about how lighting or camera angles contribute to a scene’s mood or propel the story.

September 20: Stray Dog (Japanese with English subtitles, 1949, 122 min)

Akira Kurosawa’s pulpy, noir-ish police procedural is considered his first masterwork. During a sweltering summer in rubble-strewn Tokyo, a rookie detective (Toshirō Mifune) finds to his shame that his gun has been stolen -- and used in a murder. Guilt-ridden, he wanders through the dark maze of back alleys and black markets in search of his pistol.
