Coronado Public Library, in partnership with the Coronado Island Film Festival, presents FILM FORUM CORONADO, taking place the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the library's Winn Room. Film expert Ralph DeLauro provides a brief introduction to each film and leads a discussion afterwards, often including pointers about how lighting or camera angles contribute to a scene’s mood or propel the story.

July 16 will feature two movies that bring to life a bold mix of styles and techniques, highlighting the creativity and innovation at the heart of this dynamic art form.

Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009, PG, 87 min)

Wes Anderson utilizes stop-motion animation for this cheerfully twisted adaptation of Roald Dahl’s foxy tale. After 12 years of married bliss, the sly Mr. Fox, former chicken-thief turned columnist, wages one last war on three smug local farmers— endangering his marriage and his community. A cast of A-list actors lend their voices: George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe, Owen Wilson and Jason Schwartzman.

Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore (2012, TV-G, 15 min)

A touching allegory for the curative powers of story that invokes silent movies, MGM musicals, literary references and rampant bibliophilia. Our straw-hatted  hero is transported to an Oz-like fantasy land of living books.
